A leading German food retailer has opted for a CO2 booster system by Advansor to ensure optimal cooling of its products. The planning and installation of the system was completed by HAUSER. The CO2 system, which also uses the waste heat for hot water production, provides high performance refrigeration and energy savings.

For a new 2,500msupermarket in Bad Mergentheim, Germany, which opened in the Fall of 2012, a leading German food retailer has decided to employ a booster system using environmentally friendly CO2, which provides optimal cooling performance and sustainable energy usage. The project was realised through a strategic partnership between Advansor and HAUSER. Advansor delivered the compound system, while HAUSER was responsible for planning and installing the complete system, including regulation and refrigeration cabinets. With over 900 refrigeration systems already running all over Europe, Advansor is considered one of the leading specialists in the field of CO2 technology.

Better cooling, higher energy savings

According to Klaus Bartke, Key Account Manager Germany at HAUSER, “Sustainable energy usage in the retail field is an important topic in Germany. With the new refrigeration technology, the market has bet on a reliable partner and, additionally, profits from considerable cost savings in operation.” In the Bad Mergentheimer supermarket, the CO2 booster system includes service water warming through waste heat of 100kW for normal cooling and 28kW for freezing.

The system has proven the best TEWI (Total Equivalent Warming Impact) values the supermarket has seen and its high efficiency provides better energy values. Compared to a cascade system, the CO2 booster system is reported to have better cooling performance, higher energy efficiency and a higher temperature level for the production of hot water using waste heat. Unlike conventional refrigerants, CO2 is not expected to be affected by changes in legislation or additional costs of the refrigerant itself.

24/7 operation support

To guarantee smooth engineering and operation of the refrigeration system, HAUSER and 70 skilled service partners across Germany are available 24/7 for customers. With an identification number, information, including the history, of the particular system can be pulled up. Customers can also independently enter commands and note disturbances via web interface, then follow the implementation in real time. There is also the possibility for remote monitoring – disturbances are automatically directed to the Service-Hotline. A detailed evaluation of operating figures, such as disturbance frequency or the amount of time between failures, is available in report form.

About Advansor

With more than 900 operating systems using CO2 as the refrigerant, Advansor is a leader in the development, production and sale of sustainable refrigeration and heat pump systems employing natural refrigerants. Based in Denmark, Advansor, which was acquired by Hillphoenix in 2011, delivers products and expertise aimed at reducing operating costs for customers and helping global companies meet the restrictions related to greenhouse gas emissions.
