EIA, Greenpeace relaunch ‘green’ HVAC&R database

The Environmental Investigation Agency and Greenpeace today relaunched their Cool Technologies database aimed at providing free information for businesses and others to move away from climate-warming HFCs.

Today  the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and Greenpeace relaunched  the Cool Technologies database, which aims to provide free information for businesses and others to move away from climate-warming HFCs.

They focus on listing products and installations of climate-friendly technologies that are used for heating and cooling, like natural-refrigerant air conditioning, refrigeration, compressors, foams and insulation.

They also a provide a comprehensive guide of different sectors in the HVAC&R industry including commercial, domestic, industrial and mobile.

“Cool Technologies demonstrates the wide array of energy-efficient HFC-free cooling which is available. Understanding what the options are gives people the opportunity to make the best choice for the future,” said Greenpeace International Global Campaign Strategist Paula Tejon.

“This is a crunch year for HFCs in Europe,” said EIA Climate Campaign Leader Clare Perry. “A sharp acceleration in the ongoing phase-down of these gases, combined with the requirement for HFC pre-charged equipment to obtain quotas, is expected cut supply to about 44% of 2015 levels."

Cool Technologies is also designed to show how rapidly the market is moving to natural refrigerants and how easy it would be for “developing countries [to] leapfrog HFCs entirely by moving straight to energy-efficient sustainable cooling,” according to the EIA.

The website is being launched during the first Inter-Regional Thematic and Network Meetings for National Ozone Officers, currently taking place in Paris, France (15-19 January 2018).
