This paper presents opportunity for use of R744 (CO2) as refrigerant in the air conditioning system in public trains. The R744 system shall provide cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. Today 75% of the air conditioning systems in trains use HFC-134a as refrigerant. The GWP of HFC-134a is 1410 while R744 is 1(0).
