German discount retailer ALDI has chosen a transcritical CO2 (R744) refrigeration system for a new store located on Rådhuspladsen (town hall square) in the center of Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city.
For the area, which is densely populated, a low-noise solution was important. Therefore ALDI went with a ValuePack unit from Danish OEM Advansor housed in a low-noise cabinet and installed on the roof of the store, so as not to take up limited space in the store, while at the same time not disturbing neighbors.
ALDI has ambitious climate goals — aiming to reduce its GHG emission by 40% (compared to 2015) already this year. One of the chosen strategies to reach this goal is the installation of natural refrigerant systems. An average store switching from R404a to R744 can save as much as 200 metric tons of CO2, according to Advansor.
“We have chosen Advansor as the supplier of the refrigeration system, as CO2 as a refrigerant is 100% natural and thus contributes to significantly reducing CO2 emissions and achieving our ambitious climate goals,” said Torben Olsen, Project Manager Energy and Refrigeration Expert, at ALDI Denmark. “At the same time, we have only experienced good service and punctual delivery.”
The installation was carried out by Danish contractor SA-AL Køleteknik. Advansor has “super systems and fantastic support in both sales and service,” said Rune Høyer, the owner of SA-AL Køleteknik. “Especially in a case like this, it is extra important to work closely together in order for everything to succeed at the right time and of the right quality.”
The ValuePack is described by Advansor as one of its best sellers. It has a simple design with the compressors housed in one layer only. It is suitable for medium-sized supermarkets or industrial applications. It has a capacity up to 96kW (27.3TR) MT and 25kW (7.1TR) LT.
The Advansor ValuePack units are equipped with frequency converters on the MT1 compressor as standard, and there’s an option to install an advanced frequency converter on the LT1 compressor as well.
