Carrier Commercial Refrigeration, with headquarters in Rueil-Malmaison, France, has joined leading CO2 (R744) refrigeration providers as a bronze partner of the marketplace.

A division of U.S.-based Carrier (which was spun off from United Technologies Corp. last year), Carrier Commercial Refrigeration is a supplier of high-efficiency turnkey CO2 refrigeration systems to food retail stores of all formats as well as industrial sites. The company’s services range from project engineering and product manufacturing to installation and ongoing customer service.

Carrier Commercial Refrigeration has a footprint in more than 20 countries throughout Europe, and a significant presence in the Middle East and Asia.

Carrier’s portfolio of CO2 refrigeration solutions is suited for small to very large applications. Its PowerCO2OL platform – for which it won a Gold Innovation of the Year award at the ATMO Virtual Trade Show (VTS)  this year – reaches 1.5 MW capacity per rack, and up to 5 MW with 5 racks. Large applications include distribution centers, food processing sites, warehouses and sport venues such as ice skating rinks.

The CO2OLtec EVO systems with modulating ejector technology, assisted by a CO2 pump, offer up to 30% annual energy reduction versus a standard transcritical system, the company says.

Easyfood, a Danish producer of baked goods, recently selected two PowerCO2OL racks with a combined capacity of 1,100kW (312.8TR) for a new production line that will produce sausage rolls. Another recent installation of Carrier’s CO2OLtec rack took place at an Alma Supermarket in Lommel, Belgium.

Carrier installed its first transcritical CO2 system in a Swiss supermarket in 2004. By 2014, Carrier reached 1,000 units, and in October 2019, the company reported 13,000 installations, well on its way to 20,000.
