The Beijing Topnew installations located in Beijing cover more than 2,000 square metres. Installed with Carrier’s DataCO2MPLETE, designed specifically for data centres, the installations use the natural refrigerant CO2 and have no ozone depletion potential and a global warming potential of one.

Using CO2 as the refrigerant in the system reduces energy consumption and impact on the environment compared to conventional systems. In addition, the system improves operational efficiency by approximately 11 percent and the system offers customisable cooling capacity for high heat-density environments.

Features and advantages of Carrier DataCO2MPLETE Solution

In addition to its environmental benefits, the Carrier DataCO2MPLETE system, designed by the AdvanTE3C Solutions Center, offers improved energy efficiency performance and reliability, as well as lower costs for sustainable buildings.

Key features and advantages of Carrier DataCO2MPLETE solution include:

  • Variable frequency fan motors enable it to adapt to changing loads of the data centre servers to provide spot air and shorten air distribution distance for a 25 percent energy use reduction.
  • Built-in redundancy features ensure continued operation. When one condensing unit or terminal stops operating, the system can increase air volume to provide up to double the cooling redundancy capacity.
  • The innovative terminal device feature with two-frame design enables independent mounting and service of the cooling coil and fan, reducing maintenance costs and improving equipment reliability.
  • Simple air distribution from the server rack top reduces the floor height. This reduces maintenance costs, saves space, and reduces the initial project investment cost.

George Ko, the vice president for China HVAC, fire and security, UTC Building & Industrial Systems commented,

Our Asian AdvanTE3C Solution Center team maintains a client-oriented, innovative spirit to support the energy-saving and sustainable development requirements of our customers. With growing demand in the data industry, the energy-efficiency requirements of data centres are constantly evolving. Carrier is pleased to offer tailor-made system solutions to meet the energy-saving and cost-saving needs of different clients in different regions.”

China’s increasing demand for data centre cooling

In recent years, China has entered the rapidly growing segment for data centres. According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the country has more than 430,000 data centres housing more than 5 million servers. China accounted for 30 percent of data centre white spaces in the Asia Pacific region excluding Japan in 2013 and continues to grow faster in this area than any other country in the region with an expected Compound Annual Growth Rate of 18.18 percent from 2013-2018. New facilities like these in Beijing are sparking significant demand for greater cooling capacity, creating considerable opportunities for air conditioning providers.
