As Europe’s f-gas phase-down picks up pace, the 20th European Cold Chain Conference – organised by the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) – will focus strongly on natural refrigerant CO2, with the main session of the second day entitled, ‘Optimising Refrigeration Equipment: An Analysis of CO2 Systems’.

This marks a clear step away from ammonia refrigeration – traditionally used for industrial refrigeration in Europe – being the primary focus.

Maarten van Dijk, director of e-commerce operations at online food retailer Verscentrum Nederland, and Marius van der Linden, sales director at global HVAC&R manufacturer Carrier, will give the presentation during the Thursday’s general session on CO2.

Later in the second day, breakaway ‘education sessions’ will cover administration & human resources, innovation & trends, operational excellence, and refrigeration & energy in the temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics industry.

Torben Funder-Kristensen of Danfoss will give stakeholders the opportunity to familiarise themselves with how to influence EU policymaking by focusing on ‘Sustainable Growth of the Cold Chain: from Technology to Policy’.

Business focus

The final day (10 March 2017) puts business at the forefront with presentations on trends, global best practices and supply chain automation for the global cold chain sector.

Immediately following the close of these sessions, delegates will be transported to Colruyt’s food retail facility in Brussels. On the tour itinerary will be their liquid ice transport for distributing products.

The ice is generated at their ammonia-based cold storage centre and is injected into carts that are packed into Colyrut trucks.
