In the wake of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority’s recall of 134,000 Daimler cars filled with R134a-based mobile air-conditioning (MAC) systems, Sanden has begun supplying the German manufacturer with CO2 compressors.
According to Sanden, the compressors Daimler will now be using are “the world’s first CO2 compressors for mass-produced passenger cars”.
Sanden has been developing this product with its Japan and Germany-based teams since 2014.

The compressors’ cooling performance and function exceed conventional compressors with one fifth of capacity (31 cc).
“My target is to expand this technology and use the knowledge gained throughout the development to grow in a sustainable manner in the world market,” said Tsuguo Ito, president of Sanden Automotive Components Corporation.
The compressors are produced at Sanden’s Yattajima plant in Gunma prefecture, a mountainous, landlocked prefecture on Japan’s Honshu Island.
