Epta’s presence in Nordic countries is already well established with subsidiaries in Finland and Norway working directly with major retailers and qualified distributors.
The deal struck between the two parties signifies another positive step for the natural refrigerant market, particularly the commercial sector, where Epta distributes market-leading display units, powerpacks and cold rooms.
The company also sees the acquisition as another building block to help foster further collaboration with existing operations in key markets like Germany and the UK.
Together, Epta and Knudsen Køling have supplied and installed over 1,000 CO2 systems worldwide. Epta CEO Marco Nocivelli said the merger symbolised another marker for the company to broaden its portfolio of HFC-free solutions.
“Since the year 2000 Knudsen Køling has been one of the most dynamic players in Denmark in the development of CO2 systems,” Nocivelli announced from Milan. “This is a great opportunity for both parties to share technological expertise and offer the widest portfolio of HFC-free solutions.”
“The acquisition of Knudsen Køling is a perfect match for our expansion plan to strengthen our presence in the refrigeration market worldwide, through partnership with leading brands in their respective countries.”
Based in Køge, some 45km south of Copenhagen, Knudsen Køling is a major player in Denmark, one of the first regions in the world to develop commercially viable natural refrigerant solutions.
The company has been providing refrigeration cabinets, plug-ins and reliable solutions to retailers for over 50 years with major customers including Coop Group, Dansk Supermarked, Dagrofa/Norgesgruppen and Reitan.
At ATMOsphere Europe 2015 marketing manager at Epta Franceso Mastrapasqua confirmed that the landscape was changing rapidly, particularly in terms of CO2 systems, with efficiency concerns diminishing and positive EU policy combining to lead to further cost parity between natural and HFC systems.
Epta is a European leader and global partner in the commercial refrigeration market.
