Danish CO2 (R744) heat pump manufacturer Fenagy and its majority shareholder Beijer Ref, a Swedish HVAC&R manufacturer, have announced the launch of a UK office in Leeds, England.
Fenagy UK will enable the company to locally support opportunities in the UK, which it has said is an “important and fast-growing market.”
“Fenagy has for some time been working on UK projects alongside their key partners,” it added. “This latest development is a natural progression.”
The company has appointed Paul Bevington as Business Director of its new UK office. With support from Fenagy’s Danish and UK management teams, Bevington will lead the venture with multiple years’ experience in the commercial refrigeration sector. Prior to joining Beijer Ref in 2022, he worked at manufacturers Carrier Commercial Refrigeration and Epta Group, as well as refrigeration services provider Carter Synergy.
According to Fenagy, Bevington has “a wealth of knowledge in CO2 cooling [and] heating applications and technologies.”
High-capacity heat pumps
Founded in 2020, Fenagy aims to increase the use of CO2 in industrial refrigeration and district heating with its efficient R744-based heat pumps and refrigeration systems, like its H600 Heat Pump.
In November 2020, Beijer Ref invested in the heat pump manufacturer, later becoming a majority shareholder in July 2021.
Earlier this year, Fenagy completed the expansion of its HQ in Lystrup, Denmark. With the new 2,500m2 (26,910ft2) facility, the company has said it has the capacity to produce more than 100 large heat pumps per year.
The manufacturer’s heat pumps are proving to be particularly popular within the district heating sector as decarbonization efforts are accelerated across the continent. One example includes the installation of two Fenagy CO2 heat pumps at a district heating in the village of Sønder Felding, near Jutland, Denmark. The system will serve some 750 houses with a total heating capacity of 3.5MW (995.2TR).
According to Kim Gardø Christensen, CEO at Fenagy, CO2-based air source heat pumps are optimal for centralized heating applications up to 10MW (2,843TR).
Honoring excellence
In recognition of its impact within the natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R sector, Fenagy won the award for Innovation of the Year within the heat pump category at this year’s ATMO Awards/Europe, which were hosted by ATMOsphere, publisher of R744.com. The awards were presented on September 19 at the ATMO Europe Summit 2023 in Brussels.
The manufacturer has also received ATMOsphere’s Natural Refrigerants Label, which highlights best-in-class manufacturers of natural refrigerant systems and components around the world.
