Iwatini Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer and supplier of natural refrigerant gases, has joined the world’s leading CO2 (R744) HVAC&R stakeholders as a bronze partner of the R744.com marketplace.
The company, which was founded in 1930, supplies refrigerants such as R744, propane (R290) and isobutane (R600a) to manufacturers across Japan and Southeast Asia.
High-purity R744
Iwatani’s R744 Eco Freeze series offers high-purity CO2 with low moisture and sulfur content, which is essential for use as a refrigerant, said the company.
“Iwatani is a leading provider of R744, with expertise in handling and supplying high-quality natural refrigerants,” it added. “[We] have completed the commercialization of R744 as a suitable refrigerant by combining [our] know-how of refrigerant supply and quality control technology.”
Eco Freeze is available in 5kg (11lb) and 30kg (66lb) quantities and comes in a seamless container made of either aluminum alloy or steel. Each container is equipped with a W22-14 valve.
Committed to sustainability
Iwatani believes that “only companies capable of evolving and adapting to the world around them can survive in the marketplace.”
In line with this philosophy, the company has committed to building a more sustainable supply chain, which includes expanding into natural refrigerants and refrigerant reclamation and recycling.

Iwatani
In an effort to limit global warming, an increasing number of companies are transitioning to low-GWP and natural refrigerants, explained Iwatani, adding that it thinks that “the business case for natural refrigerants is going to expand all over the world.”
Traditionally, Iwatani has focused on integrated energy, including portable gas cooking stoves, and industrial gases such as hydrogen. The company has also expanded its operations into machinery, materials and the food sector.
