U.S. heat-exchanger manufacturer Modine Manufacturing Company has joined the world’s leading CO2 (R744) HVAC&R stakeholders as a bronze partner of the R744.com marketplace.

Based in Racine, Wisconsin, Modine was founded in 1916 “on Arthur B. Modine’s vision for excellence and innovation in thermal management technology,” the company says. In 1922, Modine entered the HVAC industry with his invention of the hydronic unit heater. Today its heat transfer products and cooler solutions can be found in food storage facilities, transport refrigeration logistics and grocery stores worldwide.

Through its ECO Heat Transfer Coolers brand, Modine offers a wide range of applications for CO2, from unit coolers (evaporators) of every size and function, to gas coolers for small, commercial and large installations, including “flat bed,” “v-shaped” or “packaged,” the latter supplied with sound and weatherproof compressor housing.

Modine also offers plug-and-play CO2 unit coolers to simplify installation operations. These unit coolers are equipped with an electronic expansion valve that is regulated by a factory-fitted and wired control device.

According to its 2020-2021 Sustainability Report, Modine’s CO2 Gas Cooler product range has been installed in over 8,000 transcritical refrigeration installations globally, replacing over 10 million pounds of high-GWP synthetic refrigerants.

Addressing the EU F-gas Regulation and other such regulations, Modine describes its products as “F-gas ready,” with a comprehensive range of CO2 models (capable of operating at “ever higher operating pressures.”

Modine also offers a wide range of heavy-duty commercial coolers that utilize ammonia/NH3 (R717).

All units “fully respond to the levels of flexibility, efficiency and reliability demanded by an industry that is in continuous evolution,” noted Modine.

Efficient fans

All fans installed on the ECO- branded products comply with 2009/125/ec directive of the European Parliament (second stage ErP 2015, energy related products), and have the CE mark as they are manufactured in accordance with the European directives in force. This directive applies to fans with input power between 125W and 500kW and is mandatory in all EU countries. The ErP regulation covers products made in the Economic European Area (EEA) as well as imports from non-EU countries

In its 2020-2021 Sustainability Report, Modine notes that its coatings, including ElectroFin E-Coat and Insitu Spray Applied Coating, “optimizes efficient material use in production, and when applied, they protect materials against corrosion.”

Modine also supplies HVAC&R products used in industries such as renewable energy, power generation and automotive.
