U.S.-based Modine Manufacturing Company recently announced the expansion of its Sremska, Serbia, facility, with a new factory to be “dedicated to producing coils for commercial and residential heat pump applications” to meet growing European demand.

“We are excited to expand our manufacturing operations in Serbia to serve our key customers in Europe and beyond,” said Eric McGinnis, President of Climate Solutions at Modine. “We seek to serve best-in-class heat transfer technology that reduces energy consumption and lowers harmful emissions.”

Besides coils, the heat-exchanger manufacturer offers numerous CO2 (R744) HVAC products, including unit coolers, gas coolers and plug-and-play unit coolers. Modine also offers heavy-duty commercial coolers that use ammonia (R717) as the refrigerant.

European f-gas regulations and incentives have led to the heat pump market experiencing double-digit growth in Europe, said Modine, citing the International Energy Agency’s forecast for annual European Union heat pump sales to reach 7 million units by 2030, compared to the 2 million sold in 2021.

Established in 2014, Modine’s Serbia facility manufactures heat transfer coils used primarily in commercial refrigeration and HVAC applications, with a facility expansion in 2019 to support the growing heat pump market, said Modine in a statement. The new factory, to be completed in 2023, will be located next to the existing facility.

“We are proud to be part of the Serbian business community,” said Mike Postma, Vice President and General Manager of Heat Transfer Products at Modine. The company looks forward to working with suppliers and customers as it expands operations in the region, he added.

“Modine has decades of experience manufacturing high-quality heat transfer coils for HVAC contractors, integrators, distributors and original equipment manufacturers,” Modine said.

Headquartered in Racine, Wisconsin, Modine was founded in 1916 by Arthur B. Modine to manufacture thermal solutions for the emerging automobile industry. Today the company provides heating and cooling systems and solutions for commercial, industrial and vehicular markets across the globe with installations in such diverse locations as Barre, Vermont, U.S. and Beijing, China.

“We are excited to expand our manufacturing operations in Serbia to serve our key customers in Europe and beyond.”
