Malaysian supermarket Jaya Grocer has become the first supermarket chain outside Japan to adopt Panasonic‘s commercial CO2 condensing unit.
Local agent Coolcare (M) Sdn. Bhd supplied the Mutiara Tropicana store in Petaling Jaya, a satellite city outside of Kuala Lumpur, with the CO2 unit.
The Malaysian retailer was assisted with funding from the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol and from the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Malaysia (NRE).
Panasonic has been testing CO2 condensing units since 2009. Since September 2010, it has supplied around 6,000 units to Japanese retailers, while promoting its environmentally friendly condensing units in other countries.
The Malaysian government has recognised Panasonic’s units as a technology that helps mitigate climate change.
Panasonic is also actively promoting natural refrigerants in Malaysia. On 23 March, the company held a seminar on fluorocarbon-free condensing units for local university faculty and construction personnel in cooperation with NRE.
Panasonic stated in its press release that it would continue to support Malaysia’s efforts against global warming by offering its technology and experience in this area.
