Market leaders Lawson and AEON are continuing with their ambitious natural refrigerant adoption plans despite the discontinuation of a Japanese Ministry of Environment subsidy for retailers in the fiscal year 2017.
Japanese retailer Lawson has opened its 1,500th convenience store fitted with a CO2 transcritical refrigeration system in Japan.
Amid a dramatic escalation in the number of natural refrigerant-based commercial refrigeration installations worldwide, new data shows Japan blazing a trail – from a starting point of just 190 systems in March 2014, the country now boasts over 1,500 stores using CO2 transcritical systems.
The 2015 edition of Eco-Products, one of Japan’s largest environmental exhibitions, attracted a total of 169,118 visitors to the Tokyo Big Sight across three days on 10-12 December – as well grand statements from one of the world’s biggest retailers.
