As of 2022, the multinational retailer has installed natural refrigerant-based equipment in more than 1,400 of its Japanese stores.
“We are probably the first European [CO2 manufacturer] to sell equipment in the country,” said SCM Frigo’s Asia Pacific Sales Director.

The condensing units featuring the company’s new M-DIOMAC system will go on sale this summer in Japan.

Since first launching its Super Green CO2 condensing unit in 2015, the Japanese manufacturer has installed a total of 530 units in 180 projects across the country.
Relaxed rules make it easier for small- and medium-sized enterprises to take advantage of the project and cover up to half the construction costs.
Out of the 6,960 commercial and industrial facilities using transcritical CO2 systems in Japan, over 72% are convenience stores operated by Lawson.
